Thai-Riffic Fundraiser - 2014

13 August 2014

It was terrific to see so many people at the recent Thai-Riffic fundraiser held on Tuesday the 12th of August. A delicious banquet of Thai food was dished out and everyone walked out very full. A big thank you to all who attended and donated to the night with all proceeds going to our Benetook Chooks farm. We also had a lucky ticket winner Hannah McCullagh, who took home a beautiful bottle of Penfolds Bin 8, kindly donated by Bankmecu.

SRS would also like to thank Qualia Wines for their kind donation of wines and also Thai-Riffic for their beverage donation and wonderful venue.

SRS was successful with a Community Partnership Grant application from the Mildura Rural City Council to assist Benetook Chooks with purchasing equipment - a big thank you to MRCC and their very kind contribution.

SRS at TAFE Expo 2014

SRS also got to show case what we have on offer at Benetook Chooks, Respite and our volunteers program at the recent TAFE Expo. All the people that visited the stand got a first hand account from Tasha and Chloe of how good our facilities are and how wonderful it is to work and visit Benetook Chooks. In fact they were doing such a great job, I wasn't allowed to leave my post, not even for a second. Well done ladies and thank you for all your great help.

Searching for Solace

25 July 2014

Benetooks Chooks art participants have recently completed an painting titles ‘Searching for Solace’. This piece has been entered into the Arts Access Australia Multimedia Exhibition ‘Discrimination: the Good, the Bad, the Ugly!’ Artists involved in the project included: Tasha Whitton, Paul Taggert, Phil Taggert, Dan Carter, Alan Turvey, Anita Levey, Michael Pederson and Damien Timms.

'Searching for Solace' represents how people with disabilities sometimes do not understand when they are being discriminated against and how they often need to rely on someone else to help stand up for their rights. The hands in the work represent this support. The person shows how sometimes a person can feel alone and isolated and to be standing in the in the dark. The hands represent carers, family and friends who work to protect people with disabilities from discrimination.

We are now waiting to see if our entry will be accepted to join this world traveling exhibition. Fingers crossed!

Now it's time to let them familiarize themselves with their new place of residents and eventually lay some yummy free range eggs. Stay tuned and we will let you know when they become available.
