Today saw the arrival of our first batch of chickens for our Benetook Chooks farm. We had our clients on hand to assist with unloading and placing them in their new home. What a happy group of hens they were!

Now it's time to let them familiarize themselves with their new place of residents and eventually lay some yummy free range eggs. Stay tuned and we will let you know when they become available.

Benetook Chooks lays its first egg

11 March 2014

There was no laying around at Benetook Chooks, with the exciting news that 'Georgie' our new hen had layed the first egg at Benetook Chooks.

Our very own SRS and Benetook Chooks client, Paul Taggert was the first on the scene to retrieve the golden egg. The smile on his face says it all.

Be sure to check out our Benetook Chooks page for all the latest updates!

Benetook Chooks at Mildura Central, Alan Chalkley retires

11 March 2014

Alan Chalkley Retires after 22 Years with SRS

On Wednesday the 21st January, Alan announced his retirement, which SRS accepted with thanks and gratitude. Alan has been with SRS since 27th April 1992 and working in a program linked to SRS since 1988. Over the years Alan, also donated $20 from every pay, with an estimated contribution of $11,440 over his career. He has remained loyal to families that he has supported during the many years of service and continued to provide support outside of working hours.

We could all learn a few lessons from Alan (and some of us have!). Alan extends an invitation to his past colleagues to drop in and have a chat.

Benetook Chooks at Mildura Central

Benetook Chooks had the pleasure of having a display stand at Mildura Central on Friday the 21st February to promote SRS, Respite, Volunteering and of course, our Benetook Chooks project. The community was fantastic with their continued support for our Sponsor a Chook campaign, with everyone digging deep. Everyone loved the idea of sponsoring a chook which they get to name, and let me tell you, we have some classic names and SRS even send out an official certificate of authenticity. Kids and adults had a chance to meet 'Benny', our Benetook Chooks Mascot with plenty of selfies taken.

'The World According to Dan' featured at 'Have Your Say' Conference - Geelong

10 February 2014

SRS presented 'The World According to Dan' which features Dan and his family’s journey to home ownership and his excitement and enthusiasm. The documentary provides a unique insight into the human impact of achieving independence for people with special needs.

The video was received very well from all those that attended the conference and they were all very excited about the unique model in Sunraysia. SRS would like to thank Dan, Pam and Harry Carter for the opportunity to share their story, and hope that other families can experience the same sense of achievement.

Curious to see the documentary yourself? Check it out at our brand new Videos page.
